How to Write a Good Craigslist Ad

Take advantage of free ads on Craigslist
Craigslist offers a GREAT opportunity for selling items locally for free. If you have extra "stuff" that is in good condition, but no longer needed, give Craigslist a try. Here are a few tips that have helped move used household items for yours truly, that may work for you:
1. Write SHORT ad titiles. Think of the word KISS--Keep It Simple Sweetie! Case in point,
NOT a good title -Old useless clock is taking up so much space and I need it out!
NOW that may be a true fact for you, the writer. Perhaps that ole clock of yours may be cluttering up your house and you are just sick of looking at it.
However, the following title will grab more attention:
"Grandpa Clock Needs New Home"!
This title pulled lots of responses for yours truly. It's cute, short and sweet. The reader gets the idea, but doesn't have to read too many words to get the same point.
So keep the title clear and to the point.
2.Item description. NOW this is a horse of a different color. This is where the seller should utilize all the space needed to clearly describe what is for sale. This is very important to a potential buyer.
BAD description: Old Grandpa clock has got to go. Not sure if it works, and is very dusty.
MUCH BETTER description: Vintage Grandpa clock is functional, it keeps time accurately. There is a problem, however, with the chimes ringing when they are supposed to. Also there is a slight humming sound when used.
The clock does show wear and tear, but is in good condition considering it's vintage age (approximately early 1970's).
The clock stands 6 feet tall and is (so many inches) in width.
MORE info for a good description includes outlining, how to be reached, etc.
Example:
Clock is immediately available for pickup. Please email Janet if interested, and forward your cell phone number for contacting. I will call you as soon as possible to provide pickup location.
Price: be sure to mention that this is a CASH ONLY transaction. I am a veteran Craigslist seller and nothing is more frustrating than a potential buyer thinking he/she will issue a check or money order, as this type of payment will be refused. Clearly state this on your ad, so there are no "last minute" surprises.
Return policy: It doesn't hurt to mention that this item is sold "as is", and no returns or refunds are accepted (in the case of pre-owned items this is especially useful). Again, this is to cover yourself, and avoid any surprises.
A Note About Where/ When to Meet your Buyer:
When first starting out as a seller on Craigslist, I used to be more flexible with appointment times for pick-up. Now that life is busier, I am quite specific as to the time the item remains available. Remember, because you have a great ad, you WILL GET good ad pull. This puts you in the driver's seat, and you don't want to miss an opportunity for other folks interested in the same item, by wasting time on others who do not respect appointments and do not let you know they will be late, etc.
BOTTOM LINE IS THIS:
With a little extra care in preparing an ad for Craiglist (or Ebay, too), just keep the titles short and the details explicit. Best of luck to all!

You forgot to mention its faster. No waits for Auctions to end. Most of what I have posted on Craigslist has been sold the same day, with four days the longest I have waited for anything but cars.
It also doesn't hurt to let people know they are getting a good deal. One of the things I have used is "this ring was appraised for $400, (buy today only) for $375" I did have proof that the ring was appraised for $400. A call to action such as the (today only) doesn't hurt either.
